Vestry Meeting Minutes
November 15, 2018
The Vestry meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Richard Breithaupt. Fr. Tom opened with prayer.
Members Present: Richard Breithaupt, Senior Warden; Don Anderson, Junior Warden; Dave Abernethy, Treasurer; Fr. Tom, Rector-Elect, Charlene Connolly, Yvon Hive, Alan Cragg, Peter Lund, Dick Emerson, Bev Whiteman, Lee Perry, and Judy Allen via phone Absent was Darlene Shoemaker.
Minutes: David moved that the October minutes be approved as distributed and Don seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
Financials: Bev moved, and Don seconded a motion that the October financials be approved as distributed. The motion was unanimously approved.
New Business
Don moved and David seconded the motion that we form a Financial Planning Committee or Financial Task Force to consist of Fr. Tom, David, and Peter. The motion was unanimously approved.
Approved housing resolution for Fr. Tom:
Whereas, Thomas A. Thoeni is compensated by St. Paul’s exclusively for services as a minister of the gospel; and
Whereas, St. Paul’s provides Thomas A. Thoeni with rent-free us of a church-owned rectory as compensation for services that he renders to the church in the exercise of his ministry; and
Whereas, Thomas A. Thoeni incurs expenses for living in church-provided housing; therefore it is hereby
Resolved, that the annual compensation paid to Thomas A. Thoeni for calendar year 2018 shall be $14,667, of which $2,000 is hereby designated to be a housing allowance pursuant to Section 107 of the Internal Revenue Code, and it is further
Resolved, that the designation of $2,000 as a housing allowance shall apply to calendar year 2018 and all future years unless otherwise provided by the Vestry.
The December 20 Vestry meeting will be a meeting and potluck dinner with significant others starting at 6 pm.
Fr. Tom visited SOSP and thought they needed a “vision” to move forward. He would like to see SOSP grow and in order to do this, he suggested a Spring Luncheon. Fr. Tom would be the Key Speaker with a goal to grow SOSP by 10%, or 3 new members. He also stated he would be one of them. He felt it was important that the Vestry come together with SOSP to help the growth of the society.
Fr. Tom’s installation will be Sunday, January 6 at 4 pm. Connie Cunningham and Katie Judnich will be in charge of the reception in Trinity hall after the church service.. The menu will be heavy appetizers using a $750 budget.
David asked that all committees submit their budget requests as soon as possible.
Reports
David Abernethy reviewed the financial reports for October. Dave suggested we send out quarterly statements to those giving to St. Paul’s. Richard suggested we have special envelopes for Christmas offerings.
Yvon stated the Christmas pageant will be December 16. (since the meeting it was changed to December 23) The Holy Name of Jesus will also be having their Patronal Feast Day on January 1.
Don suggested that the Vestry, ECW, and Farmers’ Market consolidate their resources and give as a group to Outreach programs.
Lee reported that Diane Breithaupt and Burt Tucker are in charge of remodeling the rectory.
Peter reported that the first Farmers’ Market was a bit slow but expected a full house by January. Fr. Tom took time to greet all the vendors.
Richard passed around two thank you cards from Fr. Bill. Richard also suggested we consider a 4% salary increase to Deb and Janet for 2019.
Alan Cragg and Bev Whiteman’s term will expire on the Vestry. Both advised they would not run again. We will need 2 new members for the Vestry.
Fr. Tom will be in charge of the Vestry meeting beginning in December.
